Summary: Lea's really tired.
Notes: This is for tay0720 who I promised this fic like a year ago. Sorry it's so short. It was hard to write it, ya know?
Disclaimer: This is all a work of fiction. None of this ever transpired to the best of my knowledge.
This Is The Way I Need To Wake (I Wake To You)
Lea loved her job, she really did. But sometimes, on days like these, when the work day was approaching seventeen hours, all she wanted to do was go to sleep and not wake up for at least a week.
She was tired. And not just the normal tired where she could just down four cups of coffee and she’d be good to go for the rest of the day. Lea was so tired that she could possibly fall asleep standing up. Which she was very close to doing at the moment.
The cast wasn’t allowed to wrap for the day until they finished the last scene which was another group number. Tomorrow was Saturday and Ryan didn’t want to come in on a weekend but the filming was running a little behind. Lea couldn’t help but blame Chris and Amber who had a difficult time filming a particularly funny scene earlier in the day. It was funny at the time every single time Ryan would yell “cut” because they would get a case of the giggles but now all Lea wanted to do was get this scene over with and go home.
The glee “kids” were all lounging around the set in various states of exhaustion and delirium as they waited for Matt and Jane to finish their scene so they could prep for theirs. Lea blinked a few times trying to moisten her eyes that were probably bloodshot by now.
“And here’s Lea Michele looking like she’s about to drop dead on this fine Friday evening.” Cory walked around her with his phone, narrating as he filmed.
Lea didn’t even have the strength to glare at him. “Please tell me you’re not putting this on twitter, Cory. I probably look like a zombie.”
Cory smiled but continued filming. “A sexy zombie,” he countered.
Lea smiled and then yawned. “How are you not exhausted?”
“I just had like 2 liters of Mountain Dew.”
“You know that lowers sperm count?”
Cory turned off the camera feature and widened his eyes. “What?”
Lea let out a laugh. “Better ease up if you ever want little Corys.”
She patted him on the arm and walked away leaving him a bit dumbfounded at that random fact. She needed to lay down somewhere but her trailer was so far away. Everyone seemed to be thinking the same thing as she smiled at her cast mates using each other as human pillows.
Mark, Heather, and Naya had taken the only couch in vicinity. Naya was leaning against his side as Heather had her head in her lap. It didn’t look too comfortable but they all looked too tired to care.
Lea wanted a bed and then an idea struck her. Rachel’s room set wasn’t too far away and she knew that no one would be there. She quickly walked to her destination but stopped when she saw the lamp on the bedside table. The set was still dim but she saw someone already occupying Rachel’s bed.
Dianna looked up from the script she was reading and squinted in the semi-darkness. She had one earphone in her ear from listening to her Ipod but took it out and paused the song. “Hey,” she greeted quietly.
Lea swallowed. All she wanted to do was take a quick power nap and the last thing she expected was to see Dianna in Rachel Berry’s bed out of all places. It was weird because even though they worked and saw each other everyday, Lea felt like she hasn’t seen Dianna in a long time.
Their last real conversation was still fresh in her mind. It ended in a fight and tears. That was really the last time they had one and one contact.
“What are you doing?” Lea asked.
“I was too tired to go to my trailer and Rachel’s room was the closest room with a place to lie down,” Dianna explained shrugging.
“What are you doing here?”
“Oh, you know, kind of the same thing. I’m really tired but I guess I’ll just go to my trailer.” Lea turned to leave when Dianna called her back.
“Lea, wait, there’s room for than one person on this bed.” Dianna sat up and pushed the covers down.
It was an invitation that Lea wanted to take more than anything but she hasn’t been this close to Dianna in a really long time. Not since the meeting with Ryan and the Fox executives. Not since little arguments that turned into big fights. She knew it was a bad idea but she always led with her heart and not her head.
Lea swallowed again and then made her way to the bed and climbed in next to Dianna. She kept an acceptable distance between them and Dianna pulled the covers back over them.
Lea stared up at what should’ve been a bedroom ceiling but saw just the set lights. It felt weird. She could see Dianna in her peripheral vision picking up her script again and reading it. The silence was awkward. Lea couldn’t believe she was so tired just a few minutes ago but now she couldn’t seem to turn off her brain. Not when she was this close to Dianna. All she wanted to do was lean over and fall asleep on her shoulder.
“I call you Polly Pocket next week,” Dianna said out of nowhere.
Lea looked over and furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. “What?”
Dianna showed her the script. “Well, Quinn calls Rachel Polly Pocket.”
Lea briefly skimmed the script and laughed. “Is anyone even going understand that reference?”
Dianna shrugged. “Probably not but it’s more cute than insulting. But we all know Quinn has a thing for Rachel anyways.” She smiled down at Lea who was just looking at her with that intense stare. She had to look away. “I thought you were tired?”
“Then go to sleep, I’ll wake you up when we have to get back to set.”
Lea bit her lip as she stared at the side of Dianna’s face. “Okay.” She turned around so her back was facing Dianna and sighed. She tried not to think of the girl who was with arm’s reach of her and closed her eyes.
The last thing she heard before she fell asleep was “Sweet dreams, baby.”
When Lea woke up, she was not in the same position she was in before. Her head was resting on Dianna’s shoulder and she had an arm across Dianna’s stomach. She blinked a few times and looked up. Dianna had her eyes closed and both earphones back in her ears. Lea wasn’t sure if she was asleep or not but she carefully tried to extract herself when she realized that Dianna had a rather tight hold on her.
“Where you going?” Dianna asked without opening her eyes.
“Um, well,” Lea stammered not really knowing what to say. She knew she didn’t want to move though.
“You’ve only been asleep for fifteen minutes.” Dianna opened her eyes and looked down at Lea and smiled.
“Really? Only fifteen minutes?”
“Yeah, so go back to sleep while you can.”
“Okay.” Not really knowing what to do next, Lea just tried to relax in Dianna’s embrace. It felt good. Like she was at home. “Di?”
“I love waking up like this.”
Dianna kissed the top of her head. “I love it, too. We should do it more often, okay?” There was an unspoken meaning behind what she said and Lea felt her heart swell.
“Okay.” She reached up and took an earphone from Dianna and put it in her ear. She fell back asleep to the sound of the music and Dianna’s heartbeat.
Cory found them twenty minutes later in the same position and grinned. His camera was poised in his hand and the flash woke up Dianna.
“That better not go on twitter, Monteith,” Dianna warned in her best Quinn voice and face.
Cory just smiled. “No, that’s going in your wedding album.”
Dianna just smiled and pulled Lea closer to her.
